The North Polk Community School District is a progressive educational community located in the Des Moines metro area just north of Ankeny serving the communities of Alleman, Elkhart, Polk City, and Sheldahl. The District proudly serves over 2200 learners from preschool through 12th grade in five buildings (West Elementary, PK thru 2nd; Big Creek Elementary, 3rd-5th; Central Elementary, PK thru 5th, Middle School, 6th-8th; and High School, 9th-12th).

North Polk Buildings and Grounds Department is seeking to hire a Substitute School Custodian to fill employee absences around the district. Hours:2:30pm-11:00pm, as neededCompensation: $18.44 per hour

Basic Function: Fulfill the role of a building custodian to ensure our buildings remain at a high level of cleanliness.Essential Functions:

  • Attendance at work

  • Ability to take and follow instructions

  • Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders

  • Ability to work independently

Cleaning Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • sweeping, dusting, mopping/scrubbing, vacuuming, washing windows, cleaning markerboards, cleaning furniture, laundry, and disposing of trash.

  • Assistance with event setup as assigned.

  • Keep storage areas clean and organized.

  • Keep equipment clean and working order and functioning properly.

  • Set-up for activities as requested by various activities as directed.

  • Assist all staff as needed. Be able to stop what you are doing to assist others.

  • Remain on the school premises during school hours, and during no-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and extended work hours have been approved.

  • Be able to Climb a ladder.

  • Movement of furniture around the building per request, and to prepare floors for carpet cleaning or scrubbing and waxing.

  • During summer break, perform the work necessary to prepare the building for the next school year.

  • Great all students, staff, and visitors courteously.

  • Cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel. Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students and job and communicate the same to the community.

  • Other duties as deemed necessary and assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Position requires entire shift on feet, walking, bending, moving and carrying weights of up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally.

  • Includes extremes of temperature and humidity.

  • Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.

  • Working with cleaning chemicals.
