Job Description:
Summary
The Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) at Iowa State University is seeking an Engineer I responsible for supporting the CIRAS Digital Manufacturing Lab powered by Alliant Energy. This Engineer will assist in maintaining and advancing both current and future lab technologies while overseeing overall lab operations. They will support the lab’s mission to reduce risks associated with technology adoption for companies, driving significant productivity gains and supporting their continuous improvement efforts.
The successful candidate will possess demonstrated experience with troubleshooting and maintaining mechanical systems. Critical skills include excellent verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills; exceptional critical thinking, analytic and problem-solving skills; ability to deal with ambiguity; and strong time management skills. All staff members are expected to maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethical behavior.
This is a fixed term position, with expectation for renewal based on availability of f unding. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
Example of Duties
• Implement robust maintenance systems for current and future lab technologies.
• Maintain smooth operations of the lab, including managing needed repairs and upgrades and prepare lab for events.
• Develop expertise in specific lab technologies.
• Support engagements with internal and external stakeholders to identify and implement lab improvements.
• Support CIRAS staff on projects involving specific lab technologies.
• Support CIRAS staff with oversight of student lab Interns.
• Maintain and improve the existing lab records system.
• Support lab continuous improvement efforts and 1/3/5 year service plans.
