Job Description:

Summary

The Department of Mechanical Engineering seeks an Engineer I to design and fabricate research equipment and system add-ons to change conceptual research applications to tangible results. Our state-of-the-art teaching labs, studios, and classrooms have been newly designed to empower creativity and collaboration at every level.

Example of Duties

• Prototypes, develops, and refines mechanical and electrical equipment based experiments to explore advanced level engineering concepts and applications.

• Uses understanding of engineering concepts to provide consulting services (advice, designs, cost estimates and installation help) to faculty, graduate researchers, undergraduate students and student organizations.

• Manages equipment used for both research and teaching. Scheduling usage, optimizing student flow through.

• Designs electrical and mechanical equipment setups and experiments that allow students to explore engineering principals relating to the teaching labs.

• Supervises the set-up and maintenance of teaching laboratory equipment including lathes, mills, 3D printers, mechatronics, electrical equipment, welding, general shop tools, data acquisition equipment, CNC machines, casting/foundry, robotics, CMM and metrology equipment.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
