Preferred Qualifications:Experience coordinating and executing events, conferences, meetings and public gatherings; overseeing the electrical, custodial, staging, lighting, sound, concessions, catering, security, transportation, and safety.
Prior work focusing on direct client or customer support responsibilities, particularly in event planning, hospitality, or a related field.
Experience in marketing and promoting event venues, including developing strategies to increase bookings and visibility within the hospitality or event industry.
Experience providing on-site support during events, such as managing setup, coordinating event staff, or troubleshooting issues in real-time.
Knowledge of policies and procedures related to event planning, safety protocols, and compliance with regulations, ensuring smooth and secure event execution.

Join our team as an Event Planner I , the primary contact for clients planning events at Iowa State’s Memorial Union . You’ll collaborate with event planners from on and off campus, to bring their vision to life, coordinating all venue needs and ensuring every detail runs smoothly on event day. From student gatherings and academic conferences to public celebrations, you’ll handle logistics, assist with on-site support, and make every occasion memorable.
With a talent for marketing event venues and services, you’ll develop strategies to boost bookings and drive revenue, creating unforgettable experiences along the way. As the venue representative, you’ll oversee scheduling, space planning, and coordinate with university departments to bring each event to fruition. Example of Duties
Coordinates, publicizes, plans, and implements events, conferences, conventions, meetings, etc.
Facilitates event production.
Coordinates logistics such as electrical, custodial, staging, lighting, sound, concessions, catering, security, transportation, and safety.
Coordinates event staffing, which may include hiring and supervising event staff.
Consults with clients on event planning.
Coordinates contracts and letters of agreement for services and events.
Markets services and venues to generate revenue.
Creates strategies to increase utilization, events, and services.
May assign work to other support staff.

Individual contributor position with developing professional and/or technical skills working under immediate to general supervision
Grasps professional-level knowledge and concepts of field while working in a progressive learning mode
Works on problems and issues of somewhat limited scope
Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data for which answers are available or can be obtained
Responds to inquiries and issues, escalating to manager or higher level workers as appropriate
May lead projects of limited scope and complexity
May provide guidance to students
