GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Kirkwood Community College is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Adjunct Instructor to join our team. In this role, the instructor will foster student learning with minimal supervision, teaching a mix of lecture and hands-on classes across various Kirkwood locations. We are looking for candidates with a strong background in machining. College-level teaching experience is preferred.

The available position is for the courseMFG 145 Light Machining for the Trades, which meets on the Cedar Rapids main campus on Tuesdays from 11:40-3:30 and Thursdays from 1:30-3:30, running from January 21 to May 13, 2024.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide instruction for MFG 145 Light Machining for the Trades.

  • Effectively organize and prepare learning activities.

  • Evaluate and record student performance using Kirkwood’s student learning platform.

  • Complete required trainings.

  • Communicate with Kirkwood staff, students, and faculty to ensure student success.

    PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

  • Effectively instruct and communicate material for the course.

  • Abide by and enforce safety rules when in a lab setting.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of specialized training and at least 6,000 hours of recent and relevant work experience in machining or related industry.

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

  • Experience teaching at the college level or leading training sessions.
