Tri-City Electric Electrical Estimator in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Tri-City Electric Co. is currently seeking an Electrical Estimator for Cedar Rapids, IA. This position is responsible for analyzing projects and providing accurate project cost analysis, and estimates for mission-critical, hyper-scale projects.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Attending pre-bid meetings to determine the scope of work and required contents of projects

  • Review bid documents, review proposed specifications, gather quotes, print out drawings, prepare counts, take-off estimating, and respond to RFIs and RFQs.

  • Selecting the appropriate materials based on prints and specifications

  • Writing comprehensive scopes of work for estimates, utilizing estimating software, to prepare accurate estimates

  • Preparing bills of materials (BOMs) and requesting quotes from vendors and subcontractors

  • Professionally interacting with customers, other trades, general contractors, and internal staff

  • Providing Construction Services with up-to-date CAD drawings; assisting with the assembly of shop drawings as per project requirements

  • Providing technical assistance, i.e. interpretation of drawings, recommending construction methods and equipment, etc., as required

  • Communicate regularly with the Project Management Team with recommendations/coordinating with other teams as needed, project closeout, following awarded contracts as assigned, and managing estimating extra work items, change orders and credits

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or other related field OR Completed the 5-year Electrical apprenticeship through any of the IBEW Union JATC

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Electrical Estimator, Purchasing/Cost-Controls, or Electrical Engineering

  • In-depth knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).

  • Prior experience with estimating hyper-scale, mission-critical electrical projects is preferred

  • Strong understanding of bid documents, prints, specifications, and estimating software

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Must be willing to travel as needed

Candidates must possess strong attention to detail, accuracy, initiative, sound judgment, excellent communication utilizing tact and consideration in interactions, strong critical thinking and problem-solving ability, keen on meeting project deadlines, balance multiple tasks and redirections, and ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
