BAE Systems is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a passion for engineering and the desire to be part of an innovative, dedicated team responsible for designing, developing, and testing of industry-leading navigation products.

In our Navigation & Sensor Solutions Hardware Engineering department located at a newly constructed facility in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, you will become part of an Engineering Team testing Modernized M-Code GPS Receivers for defense programs. The team is responsible for overseeing internal lab activities, supporting the design of navigation products to meet challenging thermal and structural vibration requirements on several military platforms and provides coordination for off-site qualification testing efforts. This engineering team works closely with all the Hardware Engineering teams at NSS and the external test labs.

Our team is looking for a new member interested in solving complex problems and creatively designing advanced and alternative navigation systems. This individual will lead onsite Environmental testing and provide Structural Analysis for GPS products. The successful mechanical engineering candidate will have experience with creating environmental test plans and generating reports, setting up and running vibration testing, analyzing vibration results and capable of collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Ability to develop and analyze dynamic structural models for electronics components or systems

  • Experience with managing thermal and structural test environments including generating procedures and reports

  • Experience with developing a finite element analysis to support structural designs

  • Time management skills - ability to work unsupervised, multi-task, and coordinate work

  • Experience with mechanical design

  • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance (US Citizenship Required)

  • Candidates for this role should possess a Bachelor s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline and 6 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced degree and 4 years of prior relevant experience

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Previous Environmental Lab experience.

  • Experience with Structural analysis tools such as Ansys Workbench, Mechanical and SpaceClaim

  • Experience in with operating vibe/shock tables and environmental chambers

  • Understanding of MIL-STD-810 test procedures and methods

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $102200 - $173700

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
