At Principal Financial Group, we are seeking a dedicated, passionate, and ambitious individual to join our team as the Assistant Director of Product Development focused on the development & enhancement of new and existing defined benefit products and services. Responsibilities

  • Own and shape the overall development and enhancement of new or existing defined benefit products ensuring products are aligned to our strategic vision, client needs, and market demand.

  • Lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop viable defined benefit products and drive their successful implementation and deployment from the ground up.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal cross-functional teams and outside business partners to define the product offering, desired outcomes, product attributes, pricing, risk levels, legal implications, business requirements, and prerequisites specific to the new defined benefit product or service.

  • Understand the defined benefit market landscape and stay ahead of industry trends and regulatory changes to uncover potential trends and gaps in the product offering.

  • Generate new defined benefit product ideas and recommend the development of products that meet client needs and solve industry demand.

  • Willingness to follow defined product development methodologies and processes to ensure successful development and deployment.

  • Collaborate and engage with defined benefit Product Managers and IT on the execution of defined benefit product and services.

  • Present the product strategy and outcomes to key stakeholders and senior leaders.

  • Influence and engage on the implementation of marketing strategies and training for the new product/service launches and existing product/service enhancements.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • 8+ years of experience in product development and/or defined benefit, resulting in the knowledge and expertise needed to develop and deploy defined benefit products to the market

  • Research and understand the defined benefit market, industry trends, and customer needs

  • Excellent collaboration, decision making, planning/organizational, problem-solving, analytical, critical thinking, presentation, listening, and oral/written communication skills

  • Must be able to coordinate across internal cross-functional teams, external business partners and manage multiple initiatives at one-time

  • Must have strategic, big picture thinking and results oriented

  • Comfortable challenging the status quo using market intelligence and data to gain consensus from various stakeholders and cross-functional business partners

  • Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work within NDA arrangements

  • Willingness to travel to support business needs

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$123000 - $167000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
