Principal Financial Group Associate Product Manager - Asset Management in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

We’re looking for an Associate Product Manager to join our Asset Management Product Development team! In this role, you’ll serve to support a wide range of investment products and asset classes, producing high-quality research, messaging, and analysis on the firm’s investment strategies.

Additionally this role provides insights on Principal Asset Management’s investment capabilities in conjunction with the broader product team to ensure our strategies remain relevant and well-positioned to deliver on our objectives. This position will closely partner with product management, strategy and development functions on the evaluation of existing products, relevant competitors, market trends, and opportunities to enhance our product offering.

  • Investment performance analysis across our various investment platforms and capabilities. Responsible for the creation, maintenance, and communication of in-depth quantitative and qualitative research and reporting to key stakeholders as the “voice of product” to ensure our strategies and investments are performing as intending and positioned well to succeed. Will be relied on to bring to light both exceptional performance and areas of concern in a highly professional and detailed manner.

  • Product Competitive Analysis – Conduct proactive research to track Principal Asset Management competitors, market trends and threats. Analyze and review 3rd party information to determine product positioning and key product differentiators, features and benefits to promote internally and communicate to relevant product managers. Engage with distribution teams to ensure voice of client is integrated into analysis of existing product set and potential enhancements. Support rapid response sales needs in relation to competitive intelligence as needed.

  • Product Business Management – Act as a product team liaison to other departments, assisting in the solution to challenges, ad-hoc requests, and department-specific needs. High levels of engagement with distribution partners to understand evolving needs, gaps, and concerns within the existing Principal product set.

  • Product Management Team Support - Serve as a resource to the broader product management team by contributing to the creation and maintenance of quarterly competitive analysis books, filling coverage gaps, and other projects including analysis and research, across varied asset classes and investment vehicles.

  • Perform other job-related duties or special projects as required.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree required, plus 3+ years of relative experience preferred

  • Knowledge of the asset management industry, investment products (public and private), market trends, and the needs of institutional, retirement, and retail sales channels globally

  • Strong organizational, time-management, project management, client-relationship management, presentation and verbal and written communication skills required

  • Must be client-focused, detail-oriented and have the proven ability to execute on multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously

  • Proven ability to efficiently and effectively research, analyze and synthesize information independently

  • Must be team-oriented with the ability to efficiently to meet deadlines and successfully build relationships across business units

  • Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint applications required

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

  • Experience with Morningstar Direct, eVestment, Bloomberg, Factset preferred

  • Holds active FINRA Series 6 or 7

  • MBA, CFA, CAIA or CIMA candidacy a plus

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$86450 - $116850 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environments

This role offers in-office and hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), work arrangements in our Des Moines, IA office. You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
