Primary Health Care Certified Medical Assistant - East Side Clinic in Des Moines, Iowa

As a Medical Assistant, you will play an essential role in the delivery of quality healthcare at PHC working with one of our compassionate Nurse Practitioners providing family practice care and medication assisted treatment (MAT) for patients with substance use concerns. In this role, you will be the shepherd of the care team, ensuring that the clinical day flows seamlessly for your patients and providers. Your day-to-day duties will include clinical care and administrative support as delegated by licensed clinical staff. Experience in substance use care or medication assisted treatment (MAT) is a plus and a desire to work in MAT care is a must.   • Enjoy work-life balance with a stable work schedule. This position works approximately 40 hours per week, Monday 8 AM - 5 PM, Tuesday Off, Wednesday 8 AM - 8 PM, Thursday 8 AM - 8 PM, Friday 8 AM - 5 PM. May rotate working Saturday 9 AM - 1 PM approximately once every 6 - 8 weeks.

  • Earn a $5.00 per hour shift differential when you work at least a 3 hour shift either on a Saturday or after 5 PM on weekdays.

  • Earn 4 weeks of PTO over your first year of employment plus receive 8 paid holidays.

    What You Will Do

  • Documents patient care accurately and timely in the electronic health record. (Clinical documentation)

  • Facilitates the patient rooming and intake process and obtains accurate patient vital signs per established workflow. (Patient rooming, intake, and vital signs)

  • Performs point-of-care testing per CLIA guidelines and other established workflows. Ensures service orders are completed timely. (Point-of-care testing)

  • Administers medications, immunizations, and treatments per written or standing orders. (Medication administration)

  • Performs lab and diagnostic testing per written orders, explains testing procedure and preparation, and reports test results per procedure. Ensures test orders are completed timely. (Lab & diagnostic testing)

  • Completes timely prior authorizations and referrals per established guidelines. (Prior authorizations and referral management)

  • Answers and returns phone calls timely.

  • Prepares for exam/procedure and assists provider as requested.

  • Provides patient education appropriate to the patient’s age and identified learning needs.

  • Collaborates with assigned Care Team by participating in team huddles and pre-visit planning for scheduled patients.

  • Completes and accurately documents quality controls per established process.

  • Performs pre-cleaning and transport of contaminated instruments per infection control policies and procedures.

  • Routinely evaluates supply levels in exam rooms, removing expired supplies and restocking as appropriate.

    Qualifications You Need to Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification or Registration issued by AAMA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers Certification*

  • Mandatory Reporter Certification*

    *Must be obtained within Introductory Period if not current

    Your experience and skills determine your base pay. The hiring range for this position is typically $17.00 - $21.25. Candidates with extensive related experience may be considered for additional compensation up to the pay range maximum of $25.50 per hour.
