GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Manager Emergency Services is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Emergency room. Along with the Director of Emergency Services and Medical Director(s), has responsibility, authority and accountability for practices within the hospital and pre-hospital environment, to include patient care and safety.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Supervises emergency department staff providing overall direction of daily activities, orientation, performance evaluation, education, and support.

· Oversee and supervise emergency department billing functions and staff.

· Develops, implements, and periodically reviews all policies, procedures and guidelines that support the emergency department services. This includes, but is not limited to, Joint Commission requirements, state regulations, regulatory standards, etc.

· Continuously assesses and improves the service’s performance based on, but not limited to, quality management plan (both overall program and individual performance), and customer/employee satisfaction data.

· Collaborates with the Director of Emergency Services to develop annual operating and capital budget, monitors and analyzes performance and productivity and implements necessary corrective plans. Utilizes budget information in management decision-making.

· Responsible for daily operational duties of the ED.

· Works collaboratively with the managers of other departments to best serve the needs of the patient.

· Interfaces with the multi-disciplinary care team, maintaining open and positive communication with staff, physicians, and other hospital departments while serving as a resource and consultant in emergency department.

· May or may not actively participate in patient care duties.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

· Participates in local, state and national professional and related organizations to ensure current knowledge of emergency department operations.

· Participates in community education, outreach and prevention activities.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

· Bachelor of Science in Nursing or other health-related field, or actively pursuing same with a minimum of 9 course hours per semester, including summer semester, until degree is completed.

· A minimum of five years’ experience as an emergency room nurse.

· Supervisory experience preferred.

· Certification required?
