ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Assumes responsibility for safe patient transport from point of pick up of patient to delivery to the receiving department or discharge.

· Prepares for and carries out transport of patients, patient belongings, equipment, supplies and medical records to and from departments.

· Transfers patients to/from cart/bed/wheelchair using correct and safe equipment and techniques. Assists with patient lifts/moves as requested by Mercy staff.

· Documents work activities according to policy and procedure.

· Responds appropriately to patient requests and according to policy and procedure if these exist.

· Observes and reports pertinent patient and family information to clinical/testing site personnel to promote patient safety and according to policy including IV pump alarms.

· Provides appropriate information and directions to visitors, patients and staff as needed.

· Cleans and stores equipment properly

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESI REQURED:

· High school diploma or GED preferred.

· 16 years or older.

· Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.

· Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
