Job Position Title:ELL AssociateSupervisor:Building PrincipalStatus: Classified Employee Under the guidance of the district ELL teacher and the supervision of building principals, the ELL associate will provide assistance to non-English speaking students. They will supervise and assist students in acquiring English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Must clear state criminal record check and child abuse check

  • Provide documentation of acceptable health via an initial employment physical with capabilities to fulfill the duties of this position

  • Strong command of the English language

  • Secondary language skills preferred but not required

    Education/Aptitude:

  • Fluent in English speaking, reading and writing

  • Computer proficiency in skill-appropriate software

  • Self-starter and being able to help students become more self-sufficient and/or successful in classes

  • Good human relations and interpersonal skills (sense of humor, enthusiasm, patience, dependability, etc.)

    Licenses/Certification:

  • Required: Valid (state) driver’s license and insurability by the district’s insurance carrier will be required if applicable to the position

  • Required: Knowledge of blood borne pathogens and training certificate required; will provide the training

  • Preferred: American Heart Association or Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification

  • Preferred: Paraeducator certificate

  • Preferred: Mandatory reporting for adult/child abuse training certification

Experience: ?Experience working with ELL students preferred Essential Functions and Frequencies:The following three frequency levels are defined by the Department of Labor (DOL) and applied to work tasks; i.e., rare to occasional, frequent and constant (RO/F/C). The DOL definitions of these frequencies are:

Rare to (O)ccasional0 to 20 times during a shift or 33% of the time

(F)requent20-100 times during a shift or 33-66% of the time

(C)onstantOver 100 times during a shift or 66-100% of the time

(O-C)Tutor and assist children individually or in small groupsto help students master IEP assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers. (O) Under supervision of the teacher and/or therapists,assist students with personal hygiene, eating, behavioral/social role modeling and other caresper each student’s IEP. (O-F)Maintain a safe, clean, orderly, confidential and sanitary environmentfor the students and assist teachers with classroom work (such as filing, updating student files, researching topics, record keeping). (F)Observe students’ performances, record relevant data to assess progress and discuss assigned dutieswith supervising teacher and therapists.

  • Attend staff, safety and continuing education meetingsas required by the school district.
