GLENWOOD COMMUNITY SCHOOLS CLASSIFIED STAFF JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: General Education Paraeducator (K-2)
Qualifications:
Previous experience working with children.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Keyboarding skills preferred.
Reports To: Teacher
Consults With: Building principal, other associates
Position Goal: To assist the teacher by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole; to assist in any classroom preparation needed by the teacher; to provide a well-organized, class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Performance Responsibilities:
Attendance is necessary to be successful in this position.
Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
Assists the teacher in reinforcing material or skills based on student needs, interests, and abilities.
Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
Keeps bulletin board and other classroom learning displays up-to-date.
Covers office duties when assigned.
Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and story-telling.
Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.
Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher.
Checks and records student attendance.
Assists students with life skills.
Alerts the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
Serves as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the teacher.
Maintains the same high level of behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of all staff members.
Participates in inservice training programs, as assigned.
Updates permanent records.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment: Days students are in school. Wage schedules shall be subject to annual review and modification by the Glenwood Board of Education or through the collective bargaining process, where one exists. Starting wage is: $12.56
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Classified Staff Evaluation.
