QUALIFICATIONS :

  1. Demonstrated custodial experience or ability to be trained as evaluated by the Custodial Managers of the Facilities Management Department.

  2. Proven ability to communicate with others.

  3. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems.

  4. Knowledge of housekeeping practices and materials.

  5. Knowledge of minor equipment repairs.

  6. Knowledge of routine maintenance.

  7. Bending, lifting to 70 lbs. on a routine basis, climbing, continuous standing while working.

  8. May be exposed to dust, dirt, and chemicals.

  9. Work is both indoors and outdoors.

  10. May be exposed to inclement weather, ultraviolet radiation and blood borne pathogens.

  11. Valid driver’s license required.

  12. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and

    acceptable.

REPORTS TO : Director of Facilities Management, Custodial Manager, and Building Administrator

SUPERVISES : N/A

JOB GOALS:

Under the co-supervision of Director of Facilities Management, Custodial Manager, Building Administrator, guidance of the Head Custodian, direction of the Physical Plant Secretary and/or Office Manager, performs custodial work required for the routine care, maintenance, protection, and preservation of assigned buildings, contents, and immediate grounds. The Night Sub’s building and area assignment will change daily to meet the needs of the district to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains an environment in the assigned workplace safe, secure, and conducive to student learning.

  2. Flexible, adaptable, and cooperative to meet daily service requirements. Perform “normal” responsibilities for assigned areas as time permits.

  3. Order and maintain supplies if needed.

  4. Assure that cleanliness in the school meets District standard.

  5. Assure that the facility is properly heated, ventilated and/or cooled (report major problems to Head Custodian or Facilities Management Department).

  6. Assist in providing the necessary safeguards to prevent loss of school property through theft or pilferage.

  7. Be responsive to the needs of the building administrator including arrangements for lunch, evening activities and meetings, etc.

  8. Assist in the training of new employees.

  9. Have knowledge to be available to cover for the Head Custodian

  10. Assure the snow removal meets district standards for the safety of the students, staff, and public.

  11. Complete as many minor repair jobs as materials, tools, and time permit.

  12. Communicate clearly with others using verbal and written methods.

  13. Apply computer skills using email and data entry in the electronic work order system.

  14. Perform work and use equipment including:

  • Cleaning agents

  • Vacuums

  • Yard equipment

  • Snow removal machines

  • Furniture and equipment dollies

  • Various floor care machines

  • Hand tools

  • Ladders

    1. Perform exterior work and maintenance including:
  • Snow removal

  • Athletic complex

  • Maintain entryways

  • Upkeep parking lots

    Empty trash cans

  • Report any damage

    Daily perimeter check

    1. Other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. Contract Days. Salary and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION : Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the

District’s policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
