Corteva Agriscience North America Plant Pathology - Disease Modeling Intern - 6 Month in Johnston, Iowa

Description

The North America Plant Pathology team at Corteva Agriscience is seeking an intern with a keen interest in disease data and environmental classification analytics to support disease characterization processes and provide data to incorporate in plant disease models. We are looking for individuals passionate about developing plant disease models to predict disease outbreaks and identify key factors that influence disease progression and management. This role involves understanding the interactions between pathogens, host plants, and environmental conditions to forecast disease development and inform crop management strategies. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in plant pathology, data analysis, and environmental modeling. You will contribute to real projects that impact our business and help advance our understanding of plant diseases in North America.

Responsibilities - What You'll Do:

  • Collaborate with NA Pathology and Seed Product Development team members to analyze disease and environmental data to identify disease hotspots, to incorporate in models to better predict the long-term impacts of climate change on diseases, and to quantify the risk of disease spread based on environmental data.

  • Contribute to the research team by analyzing and modeling environmental factors that influence corn disease dynamics, with a focus on emerging diseases.

  • Assist in data collection and statistical analysis to develop science-based strategies to support disease characterization.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to achieve research goals.

  • Adhere to safety protocols and embody Corteva's safety culture.

  • Support the team in daily operations and administrative tasks.

  • Conduct research and gather data to inform decision-making processes.

Qualifications

Qualifications - What You'll Bring:

  • Currently enrolled in a, Master's, or Doctorate program with a minimum 3.0 GPA in Plant Pathology, Agriculture, Data Science, or related disciplines.

  • Must be able to relocate to the Corteva Seed Hub global headquarters in Johnston, Iowa for the duration of the internship.

  • Proficiency in a scientific programming language (Python, R) or a systems programming language.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with individuals of diverse language, cultural, and scientific backgrounds.

  • Creative thinking and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Familiarity with environmental modeling tools and techniques is a plus.

  • Self-starter with attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

  • Curious and critical thinkers with a positive attitude and desire to learn.

  • U.S. driver's license and ability to travel.

  • Ability to conduct in-field data collection in potentially hot, humid, or muddy conditions.
