Indian Hills Community College Program Director, Occupational Therapy Assistant in Ottumwa, Iowa
Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Dean, Health Sciences, this individual is responsible for management and administration of the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program, including planning, evaluation, budgeting, selection of faculty, maintenance of accreditation and commitment to strategies for professional development. The Program Director is assigned to the occupational therapy program fulltime. The program director possesses the academic and experiential qualifications and background necessary to meet program objectives and the mission of the institution. The program director supports student success in academics, fosters integrity and teamwork, and exposes students to innovations while respecting traditions and other cultures. Courses taught may include a variety of delivery methods including on-campus, hybrid or blended distance learning and online.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program or Occupational Therapy Program and eligible for Iowa Licensure.
Master’s degree required, but is not limited to a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
A minimum of five years’ full time work experience in Occupational Therapy to include Clinical Practice as an Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant.
Administrative experience including program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, budgeting, understanding of and experience with occupational therapy assistants.
One year of experience in a full time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the post-secondary level preferred.
Must relate well with people and display a high degree of competency within the medical field.
Must meet clinical requirements, including mandatory drug screen and background check.
Work Performed:
Manage and lead the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.
Function within the framework of the philosophy and objectives of IHCC.
Teach courses in accordance with objectives of the course outline as set forth by the division using a variety of instructional methods and technologies that facilitates learning for all students.
Organize and present various concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
Develop, maintain and submit current course syllabi/outlines for assigned courses each term.
Assist in planning and carrying out studies and surveys.
Assist with program budget development and monitoring.
Complete all accreditation reports required by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE), to include timely submission of documents and payment of fees.
Prepare and report in the program review and assessment processes.
Actively participate in program promotion and recruitment of students, provide academic advising as needed, and assist in the placement and follow up of graduates.
Attend career fairs, recruiting events and community events to promote the academic program, club and/or college.
Develop and maintain policy and procedures manuals for program to include Program Policy Manual for students as well as Fieldwork Manual for Supervisors and Students.
Keep accurate inventories of equipment and supplies, submit requisitions for needed materials.
Promptly report repairs for the OTA classroom and laboratory.
Plan, coordinate, and maintain all documents regarding the Occupational Therapy Assistant program curriculum.
Inject relevant personal work experience into the instructional setting to assist in the preparation of each student for entry into employment.
Emphasize to students the importance of prompt and regular class attendance. Consistently and accurately record attendance.
Stay up to date with trends in the field and update program curriculum and equipment as appropriate to improve student learning.
Serve as club advisor, when appropriate, to provide support for students in program-related co-curricular groups.
Measure and evaluate student progress and maintain accurate and up to date student course grades throughout the course. Prepare and submit accurate grade reports as requested.
Provide appropriate career and academic advising.
Submit appropriate referrals for students in need of services. Appropriately report student conduct matters in a timely manner.
Provide academic program orientation to new students.
Instill a realistic work attitude in students with clear expectations for skill development.
Meet all assigned classes, office commitments as scheduled.
Attend and participate in all scheduled faculty meetings unless excused by division Dean.
Meet the standards of the college’s Quality Faculty Plan.
Serve actively on any committee to which appointed.
Represent the College in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers, and the community.
Work collaboratively as a subject matter expert to develop curriculum or provide discipline specific instruction within credit and non-credit areas of the college as needed.
Maintain cooperative relationships with professional personnel, local organizations, public officials and other interested people and serve as a liaison for the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.
Assist in maintaining public relations with the local community and take part in community relations when possible.
Work in close cooperation with other Health Science faculty, modeling integrity, teamwork, and good relationships.
Chair and conduct biannual advisory committee meetings, contributing to the meeting agenda and seeking input from advisors.
Participate in Education Consortium and Program Director Meetings at the state level.
Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work, timeliness, dress and maintenance of assigned work areas.

$63,459.00 - 69,935.00
