CITY OF PLEASANTVILLE Police Chief in Pleasantville, Iowa
PRIMARY DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the chief administrative officer of the Police Department and is the final departmental authority in all matters of personnel.
- Enforces all ordinances of the Pleasantville Code of Ordinances.
- Develop and administer goals, objectives, and procedures for the police department.
- Analyze and assess programs, policies, and operational needs and make appropriate adjustments.
- Identify and respond to sensitive community and organizational issues, concerns, and needs.
- Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff; implement progressive discipline when necessary.
- Prepares and presents the Police Departments annual budget and monitors and controls all budgetary expenditures.
- Interpret, apply, and make decisions in accordance with applicable federal, state and local policies, laws, and regulations.
- Effectively use and qualify with law enforcement tools and weapons including firearms, defensive tactics, and other safety equipment.
- Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform the assigned duties.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions and concerns of the general public.
- Ability to recruit and retain your own staff.
- Due to the structure of the Pleasantville Police Department, the Chief of Police will, at times, cover shifts for officers who are on vacation, in training, or on sick leave.
