Basic Function
: To assist teachers in helping students be successful in the classroom.
Essential Functions
:
Teacher associates are an extension of the classroom teacher, they are to help students carry out tasks as assigned. The associate does not initiate a learning activity nor does she/he teach; the associate guides the students, individually or in small groups, according to the directions given by the classroom teacher. The associate main role is to work with students and to maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully certificated teachers.
Under the supervision and with instruction of the teacher, assist in individual and small and large group instruction.
Supervise students in the lunchroom, restrooms, halls and in those areas as requested.
Monitor classes during teacher absences of short duration.
Assist in preparation of instructional materials.
Assist in location of resource materials.
Perform clerical tasks such as filing and maintaining student records.
Assist in field trips.
